SPECTROSCOPE
  • Illustrates the dispersion of light
  • Teaches the nature of continuous and spectral line sources
  • Shows the basic characteristics of prisms and gratings
  • Vernier for angle measurement
This well-designed and moderately-priced instrument provides great performance. It is an efficient tool for the study of refraction and dispersion of light by prisms and gratings. The rotation scale Vernier reads to 0.5 minutes of arc and gives accurate results in all of the standard experiments. Once the telescope and collimator are aligned, they are student-proof; there are no superfluous knobs with which to play.

The Spectroscope consists of a sturdy cast-iron base with collimator tube support and a swinging telescope arm. The graduated circle is 15 cm in diameter; large enough to make the scale open and easy to read, even by an inexperienced student. Two Verniers, 180° apart, read the graduated scale. When the prism table is locked in place, a fine pitch tangent provides precise adjustment to the rotation of the table.

The Small Mercury Arc Lamp TEL-ES1801 is a good source of monochromatic radiation for use with the Spectroscope.

The telescope and collimator lenses are achromatic with rack and pinion focusing, an aperture of 3.5 cm and a focal length of 17.8 cm. The eyepiece is a 10X Ramsden type with a cross line.

The prism table is 8 cm in diameter. Spring-loading screws connect two sections to permit complete adjustment in both height and tilt. The table is marked with concentric circles to aid in centering a prism or grating.

The Spectroscope is supplied with a Crown Glass Prism and a 700 lines/mm holographic grating as well as an operating manual. The TEL-ES1801 Monochromatic Light Source is recommended. .

Monochromatic Light Source
The small 7-watt low-pressure mercury arc is a perfect source of monochromatic radiation for the TEL-EO81 Spectroscope. It comes with its own power supply and is shown mounted on a bench carrier, which is included. The envelope is quartz and comes equipped with a stray light shield.
