Scalers and Ratemeters
TEL-ST160 Nuclear Lab Station
Designed for high school and college level nuclear science instruction, the Spectrum Techniques ST150 Nuclear Science Station provides a complete solution for performing many basic nuclear demonstrations and experiments. The single convenient package includes a GM detector with multi-position sample stand, a 6-decade scaler with preset timer, a built-in 11-piece absorber set and a computer interface for optional connection to either the PC or Macintosh computer.
The internal thin windowed 15mm Geiger Mueller counter allows detection of alpha, beta and gamma radiation. Perform experiments such as, The Range of Alpha Particles, Absorption of Beta Particles, Inverse Square Law, Half-Life decay, Detection Efficiency and Counting Statistics, plus many additional laboratory exercises for both introductory and intermediate instruction.
Digitally controlled variable high voltage is supplied to the GM detector allowing students to plot the Geiger Plateau for understanding the mechanism of nuclear radiation detection, a feature not usually found in an entry level instrument. Large LED indicators display the count, preset time or high voltage setting. Computer connection and data transfer is provided through a USB port to the on-board microprocessor. Operation with either a PC or Macintosh allows students to run experiments from a laboratory work station and display data directly on the computer screen.
The software package supplied with the system stores each measurement in a data file which can be saved to disk for transferring into a spreadsheet for graphing and presentation. If WINDOWS operating systems are not available on the work station, the software provides drivers for many popular dot matrix printers for printouts and screen dumps.
The ST250 Ratemeter introduces new concepts to a basic nuclear radiation instrument. Battery operated (up to 8 hours with the internal rechargeable batteries), an AC line power charger and a Data Link with software to provide a direct connection to IBM-PC compatibles means the unit is extremely flexible. The ST250 can be used for radiation surveying, Nuclear Science Instruction or for Health Physics Training. Up to 150,000 cpm, a variable, fully regulated high voltage output of 0-1200VDC for GM tubes, and a large easy to read meter with dual scales makes the ST250 a world class instrument.

New dimensions to Nuclear Science Instruction and Health Physics Training are available with the ST360 Geiger-Mueller Counter. A microprocessor controller incorporated in the ST360 means features previously available only by purchasing multiple instruments are now available in a single unit. The classical nuclear scaler has now become a timer, preset counter, digital ratemeter with alarm, and computer interface. A large 6 digit LED readout and a 0-1200VDC fully regulated variable power supply for GM or scintillation tubes is also a part of the ST360. All functions of the ST360 are accessible and can be controlled by the computer software provided with the unit.

The TEL-ST370 Radiation Counter is a computer-operated complement to the popular ST360 Radiation Counter. It's major difference is that it does not offer standalone operation, since it is computer-controlled via a USB interface. This new instrument features many improvements and additions to enhance application and flexibility for Nuclear Science instruction, Nuclear Medicine and Health Physics training.
In addition to supporting many types of GM counters, the instrument now includes an internal preamplifier and improved high voltage supply to operate scintillation detectors for applications such as a gamma counter for wipe testing and other gross gamma measurements.
The ST370 is controlled by a PC or Macintosh computer for remote operation and data storage. Computer connectivity has been enhanced by the addition of a USB interface for Plug and Play operation. RS-232 serial outputs are still provided for connection to older computers without USB ports.
